Singapore installation process

Key facts at a glance

This page sets out what a Wientjens Blue Ocean retrofit involves for a Singapore laundry — working into the washers, drains and water lines already in your plant room rather than starting over.

It speaks to operators watching the PUB tariff and chasing their Water Efficiency Management Plan targets: hotel, hospital and aged-care laundries, textile-rental plants and industrial sites that want water reuse and heat recovery without disturbing the wash floor.

  • Where we work: commercial laundries across Singapore, including compact high-rise plant rooms.
  • On-site time: 5-7 days for the usual retrofit; the largest plants run to 7-10 days.
  • No washer changes: the loop sits behind your washer-extractors and tunnel washers — none are replaced.
  • What it covers: assessment and design, delivery, prep, PUB-licensed plumbing and electrical, commissioning, testing, training and support.
  • Local context: PUB S$1.43/m³ non-domestic tariff, SS 636 certification, WEMP metering and the Water Efficiency Fund.
  • What we offer: a free Singapore pre-installation assessment and ROI analysis.

Installing in Singapore

Approvals, connections and compliance specific to Singapore

A Singapore retrofit follows the same Wientjens timeline as anywhere else, but the connections to your water supply are regulated locally. We coordinate the work so the system is commissioned cleanly and your potable supply stays fully compliant.

PUB Licensed Plumber connections

Since 1 April 2018 all regulated water-service work in Singapore must be carried out by a PUB Licensed Plumber, who issues a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion certifying the installation to the Public Utilities (Water Supply) Regulations and Singapore Standard SS 636. We schedule a licensed plumber for the supply-side tie-ins.

Sub-metering for your WEMP

If your site uses 60,000 m³ or more a year, PUB requires private sub-meters at key usage areas as part of a Water Efficiency Management Plan. We position metering during installation so recycled-versus-fresh volumes are captured from day one and feed straight into WEMP reporting.

Potable supply stays protected

Recycled-water lines run as a separate circuit from your PUB potable supply, and final-rinse cycles stay on fresh mains water. That keeps drinking-water standards intact while still cutting 45–65% of your metered consumption — important for compact, high-rise Singapore plant rooms where the modular Wientjens skids fit without major civil works.

Step by Step

How Integration Works

The loop sits between your machines, the PUB supply and the drain. Five steps put each batch of water back to work:

  1. 01 Intercept: rinse water is taken to the recycler instead of running to trade effluent
  2. 02 Filter: disc filtration removes lint, fibre and fine solids
  3. 03 Store: the treated water sits in buffer tanks until needed
  4. 04 Recycle: it returns to pre-wash and main-wash stages, with final rinses kept on fresh PUB mains
  5. 05 Control: sensors and automated valves hold quality steady and run it without intervention

FAQs

Common Installation Questions

Everything you need to know before starting your installation journey.

Will installation disrupt my operations?

Very little — we shape the schedule around how your laundry runs:

  • Overnight work: the crew comes in during the 10pm-6am lull
  • Weekend slots: the major tasks go in while you're closed
  • Group by group: machines are switched over in batches so others stay live
  • Mains on hand: any washer can fall back to fresh supply instantly

Most Singapore laundries hold 80-100% of normal output right across the install.

How long does installation actually take?

The chosen unit drives the timeline:

  • AquaMiser: 3-4 days to commissioning
  • Blue Ocean: 5-7 days, testing included
  • AquaBatch 3: 7-10 days on the more demanding sites

That covers the build, integration, testing and training. The upfront design and assessment runs a week or two separately and never disrupts production.

What if I don't have enough space?

Tight high-rise plant rooms are the norm here, and there's usually a fit:

  • Go compact: the AquaMiser asks for just 3m² (2m × 1.5m)
  • Stack vertically: components mount upward to save floor area
  • Site it outside: the unit can go in an external bay when indoor room is gone
  • Shape to suit: the skid layout adapts to the room you have
  • Place apart: tanks can sit away from the wash floor on a pipe run

The site assessment is where we pin down which of these works for your building.

Can you work with my existing washing machines?

Yes — the loop connects behind any commercial washer-extractor or tunnel washer, so your existing machines stay in service.

What's included in the installation cost?

The one turnkey price takes in:

  • Equipment: pumps, tanks, filters and controls
  • Labour: the licensed install team for the whole build
  • Materials: pipe, valves, cabling and fittings
  • Integration: hooking up to your machines and services
  • Commissioning: testing, calibration and tuning
  • Training: a 2-3 hour operator session
  • Documentation: O&M manuals, as-builts, warranty and the SS 636 completion certificate

Billed separately: any building-owner or authority fees (we handle the process), mains supply upgrades, and structural work — rarely needed.

What happens if something goes wrong during installation?

Safeguards are built in at each stage:

  • Fall back to mains: washers can switch to fresh PUB supply immediately
  • Daily contact: progress reports each day, and an immediate flag if anything arises
  • Practised crew: hundreds of retrofits already behind the installers

Your laundry ends each day operational, and the 12-month warranty covers any defect in the install.

How much training do my staff need?

Little — the system is largely self-running:

  • Operators: a single 2-3 hour hands-on session
  • Maintenance staff: a further hour on the advanced functions

Within a week or two the crew runs it without thinking; the controls handle the routine on their own.
